Obituary for Charlotte M. Monahan

Haysville- Monahan, Charlotte M. (Oertle) passed away surrounded by her family at 88 on August 7, 2023. She was born to Harvey and Evelyn (Smith) Oertle during the Great Depression on August 27, 1934, in Cherokee County, Kansas. This time greatly influenced her life's value of hard work, and she retired after 30 years of working at Racon/Elf Atochem.
Charlotte was a gracious hostess. She would find out what people liked to eat or drink and ensure they had that on hand whenever they visited. She always ensured everyone was well-fed at her table and was very welcoming to anyone who came by. There were always cookies in the cookie jar, coffee, and great conversation with any who might visit. Her house would be the gathering place of people, and you could always find her and her late husband sitting on the front porch.
Charlotte embraced life to the fullest. She loved to travel, see new things, and socialize with anyone around. She was a fun traveling companion and enjoyed RVing with her husband. For the past couple of years, you could find her socializing with her friends at the Senior Center.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John F. Monahan, and her parents, her brother, Don Oertle, and sister Virda Sloan.
All will miss her, especially her sons Mike Monahan and Patrick (Trish) Monahan, twelve grandchildren, six grandchildren-in-law, and ten great-grandchildren.
As we drink our cup of coffee, we will smile with fond memories of the time we shared with you. Fly high, Charlotte.
