Obituary for Charles Wayne Yunker

Charles (Charlie) Wayne Yunker, 71, went to heaven May 28, 2022 at Glen Carr House, Derby, KS following a lengthy illness. He was surrounded by his loving family and caregivers. He was born June 2, 1950 in Wellington, KS to Louis and June Yunker. The third of eight children, Charlie grew up on the family farm in South Haven, KS where he developed his love of hunting and all things outdoors. He graduated from South Haven High School in 1968, and Cowley County Junior College. Charlie and Jane met in the summer of 1994 at a singles’ dance. They began dating and were married on June 9, 1995. Charlie always had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. His happy, outgoing approach to life led him to many fulfilling endeavors in the Wellington, Belle Plaine & Derby areas. His church, his work, the civic organizations he volunteered with, and the many friends he made were all touched by his positive attitude and hard work. Hard work also meant hard play. Charlie loved to hunt and fish with friends and family, was very competitive and most of all, loved KU basketball. Charlie was a loyal husband and friend, dedicated father and loving grandfather. He is survived by: his wife, Jane, Derby; his children, Richard (Deborah), Wellington, Jimmy (Fatema), Wellington, Travis (Kylie), Haysville, Derik, Belle Plaine, Jenni Terry (Bill), Pampa, TX, Andrew Ramirez (Anjie), Kingman; 10 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; brothers, Steve (Judy), Blackwell, OK, Gaylen (Suzie), Caldwell, Thane, Aetna, Tom (Sarah), Caldwell; sisters, Rita Creed, Forestburg, TX, Carol Smith (Randy), Tulsa, OK and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his parents; and brother, Neal. Friends may call from 5:30pm-7:30pm Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at Smith Family Mortuary, 1415 N Rock Rd, Derby with the family present. Funeral Service will be 10am Thursday, June 9, 2022 at South Rock Christian Church, 900 S. Rock Rd, Derby with Pastor Nick Pannone. Interment will be 11am Saturday, June 11, 2022, Pleasantview Cemetery,1794 Lerado Rd, Plevna. Family & friends dinner following at 12:30pm Mitchell Chapel United Methodist Church, 5512 Pennington Rd, Hutchinson. Memorials are suggested to South Rock Christian Church, Glen Carr House, or Interim Hospice of Wichita, in care of Smith Family Mortuary, 1415 N Rock Rd Derby, KS 67037.
