Obituary for Cary D. Waters

Cary D. Waters, 71, passed away on January 15, 2021 in Wichita, Kansas.Cary was born on April 4, 1949 in Clinton, Oklahoma to Charles and Lelia (Clayton) Waters. The family moved to Haysville in 1956. Cary attended Haysville schools and graduated from Campus High School in 1967. After high school, he proudly served his country in the US Marines in the Vietnam War. Upon returning to Haysville, he was a diesel mechanic at Mack Truck and then worked at Vulcan Chemicals/Oxy in general maintenance. He retired after 32 years in 2008. He made many life-long friends at Vulcan and enjoyed playing on Vulcan’s baseball team. Cary married the love of his and best friend, Patty Box on February 12, 1970 during a short leave from the service. They had two children, Hilary and Chad. Cary enjoyed all of Chad’s sporting events and coaching his baseball team. He always made sure that Hilary had everything she needed and supported her in all that she did. Cary and Patty celebrated 50 years of marriage in February 2020. He was involved in all the activities that Patty enjoyed doing. Cary loved fishing, hunting, his 1967 Camaro and having fun with his family and friends. Cary and Patty liked going to Eureka Lake with their friends, Lloyd and Shiela Henning. He spent lots of time puttering in his garage and could fix anything. He enjoyed farming stuff and running a combine or any type of big machinery. He liked watching Western’s and taking care of his yard. Cary is survived by his wife, Patty; his daughter, Hilary; his son, Chad (Heidi); grandchildren: Hannah and Brody; his mother Lelia and his sister, Vicki (David) Miller; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles and his brother, Don. Visitation will be Thursday, January 21st 1-7 pm, family present 5-7 pm at Smith Mortuary, Haysville, Kansas. Celebration service Friday, January 22nd at 1 pm at the Haysville United Methodist Church (HUMC). Memorials to the HUMC. Live stream of the Celebration service available on HUMC Facebook page.
