Obituary for Carol L. Swansfeger

Carol Lee Swansfeger, 76, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday January 9, 2023. Carol was passionate about education and teaching. She received her Bachelor’s of Arts in Education in June of 1968 from Arizona State University and her Master’s of Education in May of 1969 from theUniversity of Arizona. Through her passion for education, she impacted thousands of lives while teachingin the Haysville School District (USD 261), teaching elementary school for 21 years where she retired from Rex Elementary in 2009.
Carol loved to travel, scrap-booking, photography, shopping and the music theater. She continued her love for shopping on QVC, collecting Dooney & Bourke handbags, Jewelry, Swarovski, Waterford, and Lenox glass.
Fate brought her together with the love of her life when they met by happen stance in a train station in Chicago, that is where her love for swans came from, swans’ mate for life, and when she met Ed, she met her soulmate for life. They were married for 53 years, settling in Derby on the corner of Wild Plum and Woodlawn where they raised their family, collected Christmas villages, and enjoyed their grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by; her parents, Calvin and Marion Ratliff; her husband of 53 years Frank Edward Swansfeger lll and her sister Anna Reynolds and her husband Thomas.
Survivors include her daughters, Carrie Bray and her husband Pastor Chris of Derby, and Cathy Lolar and her husband Brian of Wichita. Grandchildren, Nathan Davis, Kylee Lolar, Grayson Lolar. Her Sister Betty Spruit and her husband Robert of Indiana, and Sister-in-law B.J. Swansfeger of New York.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 21, 2023 4pm-6pm at Woodlawn United Methodist Church, 431 S. Woodlawn, Derby. Burial will be at the Veteran's Cemetery in Winfield, KS at a later date.
