Obituary for Carmen Jean Weigandt

Carmen Jean (Petre) Weigandt, 88, of Derby, Kansas, passed from this life on May 24, 2022 in Wichita.

Born July 24, 1933 in Davenport, Iowa, she was the daughter of Carson and Olga (Peterson) Petre. Carmen was married to Ralph Everett Weigandt on September 18, 1954. She enjoyed ballroom dancing with Ralph, stitching, bunko and card groups, reading, traveling, and mostly spending time with her family.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children, Susan (Bill) Gessler of Derby, John (Jaci) Weigandt of Moline, IL, Eric (Monica) Weigandt of Wichita, and Jean (Lee) Fisher of Derby; 12 grandchildren Joseph (Kimberly) Gessler, Daniel (DeShell) Clark, Jennifer (Jonathan) Holder, Joseph Clark, Brian Gessler, Eric (Bailey) Gessler, Katherine (Michael) Cliff, Anna Weigandt, Thomas Weigandt, Gage Weigandt, Ryan Fisher, Matthew Fisher; 10 great-grandchildren Aidan, Haley, and Evan Clark, Adeline and Rosemund Cliff, Jace, Amelia, and Kate Gessler, Cole and Penelope Holder; nephews Matthew (Janet) Gau, Mike (Kathy) Gau, and niece Michelle Gau.

Carmen was preceded in death by her parents, and by her sister and brother-in-law Jean and Joseph Gau.

Visitation will be 5-7pm Thursday, May 26, at Smith Mortuary in Derby. A recitation of the Rosary will be 1:30pm Friday, May 27, followed by Funeral Mass at 2:00pm at St. Mary Catholic Church. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the church.
