Obituary for Bryon Keith Jones

Bryon Keith Jones, 66, of Derby, Kansas, passed away on March 29th, 2023 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Bryon was born on February 9th, 1957 to Marvin and Norma Jones in Wichita, Kansas. He graduated from Mulvane High School in 1975 and obtained an Associate’s Degree in architectural engineering from Butler County Community College. He worked as a Sales and Marketing Manager for Architectural Art Manufacturing for 24 years. In 1980, Bryon met Kim at a shoe store where they both worked. They married in Wichita in 1982. In 1986 they moved to Derby where they raised their two children, Scott and Courtney. Bryon was a devoted husband and father. He was extremely proud of his children.

Bryon enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening and spending time with family. He and Kim were season ticket holders for WSU Men’s Basketball. He also enjoyed watching KSU basketball and football as well as the KC Chiefs. Sunday activities had to be scheduled around the NASCAR racing schedule. Always quick to make people laugh, Bryon believed that if you weren’t smiling and laughing, you weren’t living. He made it his mission to make sure others around him were having a good time. Throughout his cancer battle, no matter how bad he felt, he found something to joke about with the nurses. He said it was his job to make others smile. Bryon and Kim spent several months in Houston TX through his cancer battle. He sought treatment with MD Anderson Cancer Center and participated in two clinical trials. In addition to giving himself additional time with family, he felt compelled to help further the research that might someday help others with his disease. He said that God and Science were going to get him through.

Bryon is survived by his parents Marvin and Norma Jones of Mulvane, sisters June (David) Hurst, and Karen McHenry, his wife Kim, his two children Scott Jones and Courtney (Weston) Heflin, and several cousins, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and in-laws who adored him. We know that Bryon is up in heaven having pizza with his father-in-law Gary and playing with Sadie, his beloved Cairn Terrier.

A visitation will be held 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm Monday April 3rd at Smith Family Mortuary (1415 N Rock Road, Derby). Funeral service will be at Life Church (2801 N Buckner, Derby) 10:00 am April 4th with interment following at Hillcrest Cemetery.
