Obituary for Barbara A. Arnold
Barbara Ann Arnold, 89, of Wichita, Kansas was reunited with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 1st, 2023 with family at her side. She was born January 28th, 1934 in Perry, Oklahoma to Archie “Arch” and Juanita (Walter) Rutter.
Barbara grew up in Blackwell, Oklahoma and graduated Ponca City High School in Ponca City, Oklahoma where she was active in many clubs. She attended college at St. John’s College in Winfield, Kansas and Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. Barbara taught 1st and 2nd grade at Zion Lutheran School in Decatur, Indiana.
On December 24th, 1963 Barbara married Sherman Milton Arnold in Ponca City, Oklahoma. She attended, taught Sunday school, and was a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League at First Lutheran Church, Ponca City, Oklahoma. Barbara was a faithful servant of Christ. She was a school teacher at First Lutheran School, Ponca City, Oklahoma where she taught elementary children until retirement. She was a school teacher for 36 years.
Barbara was a Camp Fire leader and involved in many other community activities. In retirement, she spent her time visiting family and attending her grandchildren’s activities. Even as dementia took most of her memory, Barbara was a blessing to all who knew her with her contagious smile and always kind words.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Arnold; parents, Arch and Juanita Rutter; sister, Margaret Taylor; half-brothers, Donald, Irwin, and Harry; and half-sister Francis May.
She is survived by her brother, Walter Rutter of La Salle, Colorado; son and daughter-in-law, Drs. Jonathan and Larae (Stemmerman) Arnold of Marion, Iowa; her daughter and son-in-law, Alicia and Danny Taylor of Wichita, Kansas; and her four grandchildren, Shelbi Howard of Fairfax, VA, Harrison Arnold of Marion, Iowa, and Courtney and Sara Taylor of Wichita, Kansas.
Services and interment are pending.
