Obituary for Alon Douglas Booker

Derby - Alon D. (Douglas) Booker, 84, died Sunday, May 30th, 2021. He was born July 29th, 1936 to Roland and Easter Booker in McKenzie, Alabama.

After graduation he joined the Air Force where his first assignment was in Fairbanks, Alaska. He came home on leave to marry his high school sweetheart, Bonnie, on August 23, 1955. Their first home was in Fairbanks and it would be the first of many as he served his country for the next 21 years. His service included assignments all across the U.S, Puerto Rico, and Thailand. After retiring from the Air Force in 1975, he worked for Beech Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas for 20 years and had a Christmas tree farm for a number of years in Alabama.

Douglas most loved spending time with his family (especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren), cheering for the Crimson Tide, and driving his tractor on his farm on Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his parents Roland and Easter, brothers Melvin and Emmanuel.

Douglas is survived by Bonnie, his wife of 65 years, daughter Sharon, son Jeff (Julie), grandsons Justin (Giesele), Jordan (Robin), Josh (Kayla), and great-grandchildren Jailee and Jayden.

Visitation: Friday, June 4th, 2021, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Smith Family Mortuary Chapel 1415 N. Rock Rd. Derby, Kansas 67037. Funeral Service: 2:00 pm, Friday, June 4th, 2021 at Smith Family Mortuary Chapel 1415 N. Rock Rd. Derby, Kansas 67037. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
