Obituary for Charles Clogston Parks

Charles Clogston Parks passed away peacefully at his home in Phoenix, Arizona on January 5th, 2018 one day short of his 98th birthday. He was born January 6, 1920 in Eureka, Kansas to Charles and Margurette Parks. As a young man of 18 he moved to Wichita in 1938 to work for Cudahy Packing Company. He was drafted into the U. S. Army in 1941. Returning to Wichita on leave his cousin Betty Jo introduced him to her friend Miss Helen E. Symons. Six weeks later Charles and Helen traveled on New Year’s Eve to Wellington, Kansas and eloped. Charles was shipped overseas to fight in WWII and worked for the Allied Force Headquarters European Theater. After the war he returned to Wichita and worked for the Veterans Administration for 42 years. Retiring as a Section Chief of the Loan Guaranty Division.

After retirement in 1983 Charles and Helen delighted in traveling all across the United States and took many cruises to the Caribbean. He was a ham radio operator and Mason and he enjoyed hunting and fishing all through his life. He loved being with family and showing pictures and slides of trips and family gatherings and sharing their stories.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Helen in 1998. And sister Virginia Cooper in 1961. He is survived by his son, Tom (Trish) of Phoenix, Arizona; one brother, Jeffrey E. “Jack” Parks of Hoquiam, Wa; grandsons, Chris Parks and Pat (Ly) Parks; and great grandsons Zane, Kale and Otto Parks all of Wichita, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews. Graveside Services are at 10:00 A.M. Monday, January 15, 2018 at the Old Mission Cemetery in Wichita, Kansas.
