Obituary for Thomas Armstrong

Thomas Armstrong
Thomas Joseph "T.J. Armstrong, age 93, of Wichita, formerly of Mulvane, went to the Lord on May 14, 2018. He was born March 5, 1925 in Wichita, KS, to Thomas M. and Nona (McDonough) Armstrong. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in November 1942, after boot camp, joined up with the 2nd Marine Division outside of Wellington New Zealand. He made amphibious landings and fought on the islands of Tarawa, Saipan, and Tinian. He was honorably discharged in February 1946. He married Margaret E. Schibler, October 11, 1947 in Springfield, MO. Together they raised thirteen children in Mulvane, KS. He worked 38 years for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita and was an airplane inspector. He was member of St. Michael’s church, active many years in the Knights of Columbus, volunteered at Villa Maria Nursing Home and served on the Mulvane City Council. He enjoyed gardening and “tinkering “in his workshop. He was preceded in death by beloved wife, Margaret, grandson, Damian McKown, son-in-law, Willis Musick, brothers, Leo, Jack and Jerry and sister Mary T. Kruse. He is survived by his children Tom(Terri), Kathy McKown, Terry (Ron) Ast, John (Marsha), Mollie Grill, Sherry Smith, Becky (Ralph) Ramsey, Micki, Tim, Peggy, Jerry, Jim(Denise) Denis(Paula), 26 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Visitation 1-8 pm Thursday, with family receiving friends 5-7 pm, Smith Mortuary, Mulvane. A rosary will be said 9:30 am Friday, May 18, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00, St. Michaels Catholic Church, Mulvane. Internment at Mulvane Cemetery, Mulvane.
